MINISTRIES

Ministries Within the Parish

Lay Eucharistic Ministers

The Bishop of the Diocese licenses these individuals, authorizing them to administer the chalice during Holy Communion.  Lay Eucharistic Ministers also usually lead the praying of the Psalm.

Lay Worship Leaders

The Bishop of the Diocese licenses the individuals, authorizing them to officiate at Services of Morning or Evening Prayer.

Altar Guild

Altar Guild members volunteer to be responsible for the many-faceted tasks involved in "setting the altar" for the Service of Holy Eucharist, and for caring for the consecrated objects used during worship.

Lectors

Lay Readers read either the Old Testament or the Epistle reading during the part of the Eucharist service known as the Liturgy of the Word.

Casserole Ministry

For this ministry, parishioners assemble casseroles, and then freeze them for use during times that are difficult for families or individuals.  Examples of such circumstances:  During a time of bereavement when family members have come from out of town and therefore there are more people at the table than usual, or when a family member is ill and caretakers would be aided by having such a casserole on hand.

Parish Life Committee

The members of the St. John's Parish Life Committee offer general support for special parish functions, and for any Convocation or Diocesan functions that might be hosted by St. John's. (The photos below represent just some of the members of this commitee -- it seems that every parishioner, at some time or another, lends a helping hand!)
